Why enzyme treatment vs surface cleaners

Pet urine is 95% water when fresh — easy. As it dries, water evaporates and urine crystals form and bond to the fiber. Those crystals reactivate every time humidity rises, releasing odor. Regular surface cleaners lift the stain but leave the crystals behind. Enzyme treatment digests the proteins in urine crystals, breaking them down chemically. Once they’re gone, the odor is gone permanently.

What we can and can’t fix

Fresh stains, and most set-in stains where urine has stayed in the carpet fiber layer — almost always yes. Deep-set urine that has penetrated the padding or subfloor — often requires sub-pad replacement, not just extraction. We’ll always test the affected area with a UV light during walk-through so you know exactly what we’re dealing with before the visit.

Safe for pets and kids

Every enzyme solution we use is EPA Safer Choice certified. Non-toxic when dry. Safe around cats, dogs, and young children after normal dry time (4–6 hours).

Quick FAQ

What clients ask.

Will it work on old, set-in urine?

Usually yes if the urine stayed in the fiber layer. If it soaked through to the sub-pad, sub-pad replacement is the only real fix — we’ll UV-scan the area and tell you honestly.

Does it work on cat urine?

Yes — cat urine is chemically similar to dog urine (both contain urea and uric acid). Same enzyme process works on both.

Can you treat upholstery pet stains too?

Yes — see also upholstery services. Same enzyme approach, adjusted process for fabric type.
